She is the child of Harvey Welker, a Native American father, along with Julie Welker, an African American Mother. The mother of the family is an agent while her father is a civil engineer. Walker went to her school at the Germantown Friends School located in Philadelphia's Germantown, where she received the diploma in 1994. Then, in 1998 she earned her graduation in 1998 from Harvard College with a Bachelor's degree. Welker married John Hughes in Philadelphia, who was known as a marketing director.
