
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and singer who toured for more than 40 years. London was a torch performer loved for her smooth, melodic vocals and her languid contralto voice, recorded more than thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. Her debut album "Cry Me a River" was recorded by her was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to her music-related recognition, London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her portrayal of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's career as an actor lasted 35 years. in film in 1944, and included roles as the female lead in many westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) and with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) along with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and alongside Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the late 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. The final album of her studio was released in 1969. She maintained her popularity as the female character of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), where she was a co-star with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
